Complex Event Processing (real time even stream processing) for fun and profit

Full Paper

CEP (Complex Event Processing) is a way to correlate events in real time as they come in via a "stream", and take action (eg look for suspicious activity).

This talk will cover what CEP is, what you can use it for (eg real time fraud detection, or tracking of events) and a case study. The two open source libraries shown will be Drools' "Fusion", and Esper (both are ASF2.0 licenced libraries).

CEP is like SQL for real time events, allowing matching of patterns over time, to reach conclusions (either for information/reporting, or automated action). The example discussed will show delivery tracking in real time of critical packages including vehicle speed, cargo temperature monitoring.
