Taking Groovy and Grails Further into the Enterprise
Groovy is frequently promoted as "the scripting language for the JVM". Grails is often described as being "great for smaller, quick-to-build web applications". Neither of these pieces of perceived wisdom really gives the Groovy/Grails combination its due: a powerful tool in the Systems Integrator's armory. This presentation will show how Groovy and Grails--in conjunction with SpringSource's up-and-coming "Spring Integration" and "Spring Batch" projects--can make building complex enterprise systems as easy as building a standalone web application.
Griffon: The 21st Century Way To Build Rich Internet Applications
This talk will introduce the Griffon Framework: a Groovy-based framework and set of Domain Specific Languages for building Rich Internet Applications.
Although currently a rather young project, Griffon is based on an extremely reliable and mature technology underpinning while still allowing the construction of innovative applications such as the 'Twittersphere' application: a mashup of NASA WorldWind and TwitterAPI, packaged as a Griffon application. Twittersphere created such an impression at the 2009 JavaOne conference that it enabled Groovy to win the Script Bowl 'Crown' in the face of competition from Jython, Clojure, Scala and JRuby.
In addition, Griffon makes it possible to bring tried-and-trusted technologies such as Cascading Style Sheets to the desktop and also allows seamless use of leading-edge technologies such as Sun's 'JavaFX' "Flash killer."
